Another muscle transfer option is from the inner thigh called the Gracilis muscle. This is detached from the thigh along with its nerve and blood supply. The blood supply to this muscle is then re-attached to a small artery and vein in the face using microsurgery techniques, and the nerve power source to the muscle is borrowed from the nerve to masseter (one of the chewing muscles), or a branch of the healthy facial nerve on the other side of the face.
